A restaurant asked me to make 25 shot flights, customized for their needs.  They had some really good ideas, but were looking for me to put it all together and develop a prototype.  I had some air-dried walnut in the shop and thought that it would give the flights a cool look, a mix of rustic and refinement.

After the restaurant staff looked at the prototype, we proceeded to make the rest.  Each flight is approximately 15” long and at least 6” wide, and holds five glasses.  I left the live edge on one side, and cut a clean edge on the other.  The glasses are off-center, pushed towards the back edge.  This gives them some space to put assorted meats and cheese on the flight.

To make the holes for the glasses, I used a router.  I created a template using 1/4" thick plywood.  Using a bushing guide and router bit, I routed out the holes in two passes.  After they were routed, I cut miters on each end.  This will make it much easier for the serving staff to pick up and set down the boards. 

I engraved the restaurant’s logo in each one using my Glowforge laser.

I’m really happy with how they turned out and plan to make an alternative version in the near future that is made for serving food, not shots.
