Spider-Man Scroll Saw

I’ve always wanted to make a picture of Spider-Man out of wood.  But I also knew that this was going to be the most challenging scroll saw art project I would make.

I started by making a custom picture frame.  I didn’t want to spend so much time scroll sawing and then put the workpiece in a regular picture frame.  My picture frame has multiple layers stacked upon themselves.  I made it from walnut and then added some blue mahoe inlay.  I then placed another piece of walnut on top, which gave the picture a really cool geometric look.

The Spider-Man picture came from a piece of artwork in a Spider-Man comic.  I loved the picture and saved it just for this project.  No paint or stain was used in this scroll saw project.  All of the colors are natural.  I used bloodwood and blue mahoe for his suit.  The background is birdseye maple.  The negative space is wenge.  The buildings and Spider-Man’s webbing is holly.
