Daredevil Prop Sign
I made a replica Nelson and Murdock sign from the Netflix show Daredevil. The sign in the show is made from resin. I wanted to make one from wood, which is a bit tricky. I could potentially throw it in the CNC and let it do its thing, but I think that I would risk breaking some of the letters because they are tiny and delicate. Instead, I opted for laser cutting the letters.
The sign itself is built like a box lid. It’s a wooden panel encased in a frame. I then glued the letters to board. To get them all lined up properly, I made a template. This let me apply glue to the letters and drop them right into place.
I applied a wipe-on varnish to the whole thing. Looking at pictures of the sign, it appears that the high surfaces have a bronze or tarnish brass glaze. I mixed up some paint and applied it with a brush to my sign.
I love how this sign turned out! It looks really cool and I hope this video gives you some ideas or motivation for making your next project. It doesn’t have to be a nerdy Daredevil sign, but any woodworking project.
