Saw Blade Cleaning
Recently, I noticed a bunch of tear out when I was cross cutting boards. That means it’s time to clean my saw blades. If you’ve ever watched my joinery videos, in which I zoom in on my blade, you probably noticed a lot of resin and dirt on my table saw blades. I’ve put this off long enough. It’s time to finally clean them!
I’m cleaning two blades, my all-purpose combination blade and my ripping blade. To do this, I’m using some common cleaners. I like to use Simple Green to do most of the work. It seems to do a great job at getting the majority of the filth off of the blade teeth. I will sometimes use Boeshield products for cleaning. I definitely like to use their lubricant after cleaning my saw blades to prevent any rust afterwards.
Cleaning the blades couldn’t be simpler. Place the blades in a container or some sort (a 5 gallon bucket lid works great). Spray some Simple Green on the saw blade and let it soak in for a few minutes. Then, using a tooth brush, brush over all of the surfaces around the teeth. Don’t forget to brush the teeth faces too. Once your blade is looking shinny again, clean off the Simple Green with some distilled water. After that, I like to spray a little bit of lubricant on the blade to ensure that it doesn’t rust.
