Ever want to make your own custom furniture? I made a walnut end table that coordinates with my existing console table. This is part of my Wadsworth furniture collection. What I think sets this table apart is the custom furniture molding. The table has some really cool custom stacked molding along the apron, under the table top, and around the bottom shelf. The table has a Doric Greek architecture feel and is definitely a statement piece in any home.

What I like about the design of this table is its flexibility. Remove the molding and taper the legs and this table looks Shaker. Remove the molding, keep the legs straight, shorten the top and it has a modern, clean look.

Construction

The construction is fairly simple. I connected the legs to the top aprons using dominos. Dowels or screws would have worked too. The shelf has breadboard ends that attach to the legs. It’s designed so that when the shelf expands and contracts throughout the season, the table won’t crack.

I picked out some of the nicest walnut I had in my shop for the top. It has some beautiful figure to it.

It may sound odd, but one of my favorite features is not even visible. It’s the wooden buttons underneath that hold the top onto the base. I don’t know why, but I really enjoy making and using them.

The finish is General Finishes Arm-R-Seal wipe on varnish.

I’m happy with the build and now I can think about what other furniture pieces I want to add to the collection. I do not have plans available for this end table, but I do have plans for the coordinating console table, which is built exactly the same way. The only change necessary is the length and width. Check them out if you’re interested in making your own table.
