Warped Picture Frame

I have art that REFUSES to want to use a traditional looking picture frame.  A picture frame should either completely disappear so as not to distract from the artwork, or it needs to become part of the artwork itself.  If you ever look at a hanging piece of art and wondered what seems off it may be the frame that holds it.  I have an idea for an incredible piece of scroll saw art that I want to make.  Before I can do that, I need to make the picture frame for it to go in.  The picture frame will help during the creation of the art.  Because of the style of the scroll saw project, I think a basic frame wouldn’t do it justice.

In this project I made a stacked picture frame that results in a unique look.  I made the frame out of maple and then veneered blood wood on the top of it.  I now have a beautiful red and white stripe when looking at the side or the rabbet of the frame.  A red frame would be nice in itself, but to take it up a notch I added another layer on top.  This time I used the scroll saw to cut a weird shaped frame, giving it the illusion of the frame warping.  I glued that on top of the picture frame.  I think it has a cool look and it’ll go pretty well with the art.

If you want to see how I make the woodworking art project that goes into the frame then you should subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss it.
